Orientation Complete

Still gotta get used to waking up early. Dragged myself down to Tinseltown yesterday for VFS’s orientation. Grabbed a bit of breakfast at MD’s, and while I was walking, this hobo comes up and asks me for spare change. I tell him I have none left, which is true - I never carry cash and I had exact change for breakfast - and keep walking. To my surprise, the DTES variety are more aggressive, so he walks with me and asks “Well, do you got a bill you can give me?”. I tell him I don’t carry cash, and keep going. He one-ups the bill with “Well how bout we go to an ATM”. Haha holy cow what nerve. I tell him it ain’t gonna happen and he finally gets the message and gives me a few parting “colorful metaphors”. I proceed to the orientation.

We got into the theatre and sat through some demo’s of what graduating students work looked like - all very impressive. There was a very small clip for game design, which showed one game for about 15 seconds. Considering every other course’s video was 2+ mins long, I wished they would have showed more. After the videos, we all got our mug shots taken and we walked up to the VFS cafe as a group. The game design students grabbed a few tables and we sat down and got to know each other. There are alot of interesting people in my class, all with a passion for videogames and some like anime. It was nice for once not having to explain what anime was and how it isn’t just “Japanese cartoons”. Of course some were bigger fans than others.

Looks like it’s going to be a fun year…

Back to normal

Life it seems is returning to it’s normal pace. I’m looking forward to actually being able to put my time to good use at class and not let it waste. For the most part my website overhaul is done. I may end up adding a few extra navigation buttons, but I believe it’s as easy as it’s going to get. Now that school is in place, I’ll be able to get back to planning which conventions I can attend. As long as it doesn’t interfere with class, I will be on staff at Anime Evolution 2007 here in Vancouver (well in Burnaby but close enough) and I also plan on attending Sakuracon 08 - again class permitting. I’m hoping I will have the privilege of being a staff photographer for a 3rd year, but this remains to be seen.

In local happenings, several movie theatres are showing the first naruto movie - dubbed. While I am old fashioned and prefer subtitles, a bunch of friends are going so I’m sure we can enjoy the movie even if naruto does say his annoying “Believe it!” every 2 seconds. Perhaps put the movie on my cell phone and listen to the Japanese voices while I watch. No doubt there will be some cosplayers, and I’ll be bringing my camera. Perhaps one or two of them will be “high quality” - here’s hoping.

New design online

I put my spare time to good use and redid the website yet again. Navigation should be easier thanks to the buttons on the right sidebar now, and I’ve cleaned up the gallery a bit by moving old folders to the completed meetups section. I’ll continue to tinker with the website for a couple more days.

In other news, one of my images found it’s way into someone’s youtube video. Gotta love the internet hah. My picture appears at 1:52 into the video.

Update Update!

Yes yes, far too long again. But there is good news, as I will be going back to college at Vancouver Film School. Only took 4 months to get the confirmation, but the wait was well worth it.

As for the website, I’m going to spend some time and revamp the blog section to be more photo-heavy. I think I might change to a black / grey theme, but that remains to be seen. I’ve been keeping my deviantart updated with a few new photos, and should have some more come saturday as I’m attending a friends birthday where cosplay is encouraged. In the meantime, here’s one of my more recent photos. I tried recreating the first ending from Naruto, even though my cosplay model is wearing naruto’s time jump outfit. We are both happy with how it turned out.
